Agateware Collection 2021
For the last couple of years I have been developing this marbling technique and finding fun new ways of playing with it to create these colourful and unpredictable pieces.
It’s taken a lot of trial and error but doesn’t all the best stuff?! It’s so satisfying to now be producing such unique work that are, by definition, one-offs, never to be replicated. I love that I am surprised by each and every piece-the unpredictability isn’t usually something I enjoy but with this technique it’s what makes them special.

I use stains to colour the white stoneware and then use slices of this coloured clay in a bigger ball of white clay before I wedge it slightly and throw it carefully on the wheel. It’s key to centre these quickly otherwise the colours mix too much…which by itself can be a tricky process! You never quite know how the colours will marble together which is what makes this technique so fun!
Due to the colour being all the way through the clay, when you carve below the surface after trimming, the patterns that come through can be spectacular!
Numbered Collection of Vessels
As each and every agate piece is unique, I thought it would be fun to produce a set of unusual and bespoke numbered vessels. Below are the first 4…stay tuned for more of the collection as it develops!
